An old town with the first new town estates beside it
Madeley was an industrial town long before Telford, and the older streets around the centre still have the terraces and cottages to show for it. Right next to it sit some of the earliest new town estates anywhere in Telford: Sutton Hill was the first, built in the late 1960s, and Woodside followed in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
That gives Madeley two very different heating pictures. In the old town it is tanks in the loft, long pipe runs and combi conversions. On the estates, thousands of homes were built within a few years of each other, so the heating systems were laid out the same way and tend to need the same work at around the same time.
