Emergency Plumber in Telford

First, do these three things

   Turn the water off

   Find the internal stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs cupboard, or near where the main pipe comes into the house. Turn it clockwise until it stops. This is the single most useful thing you can do and it costs nothing.

   Open the cold taps

   Run the cold taps downstairs to drain the pipes. Less water left in the system means less water coming through your ceiling while you wait.

3. 3

   Keep it away from electrics

   If water is anywhere near a fuse board, a socket or a light fitting, do not touch them and do not stand in the water. Switch the power off at the board if you can reach it safely and stay out of that room.

What counts as an emergency

Some jobs genuinely cannot wait until Tuesday. These are the ones worth ringing about straight away:

• A burst pipe, or water coming through a ceiling
• A leak you cannot isolate with a valve
• No heating and no hot water at all, especially with a baby, someone elderly or someone unwell in the house
• A boiler that has locked out and will not reset
• A leaking boiler or cylinder
• A blocked or overflowing toilet in a house with only one

And some can wait a day without costing you anything, which usually means a cheaper, calmer job: a dripping tap, one cold radiator, a slow-filling cistern, a service that is due.
