What we do, and what we do not

Being straight about this saves everyone time. We are plumbers and heating engineers, so we do the plumbing, the pipework, the appliances and the heating in a bathroom. Tiling, plastering and electrics are separate trades, and on a full refit they need scheduling around each other in the right order.

The thing most bathroom quotes leave out: pressure

A shower is only as good as the water going to it. A big rainfall head on a system that cannot feed it is a disappointment you have paid for, and it is the single most common regret people have about a new bathroom.

So before anyone picks a shower, the question is what feeds it: mains pressure through a combi, a gravity system off a tank in the loft, or an unvented cylinder. That answer decides which showers are worth buying and whether a pump is needed. It is a five minute conversation that saves a bad bathroom.

How long and in what order

   Rip out and first fix

   Old suite out, pipework and wastes moved to where the new layout needs them. This is the part that decides whether the finished room works.

2. 2

   Other trades

   Tiling, plastering and electrics happen in the middle, once the pipework is in the walls and before everything is boxed in.

3. 3

   Second fix

   Suite, taps, shower and towel rail fitted, connected, tested and sealed. Then we run it, check the wastes, and check nothing weeps.

The plumbing days are usually a small part of the calendar. What stretches a bathroom out is waiting on other trades and on parts, which is why knowing the order up front matters more than the quote being the cheapest.
